am rather new to the world of computers..how do I find out what version of Mcafee is on my machine? Before opening an attachment is there a way to have Mcafee scan it before I open it?

I haven't used McAfee so I'm treading water here until someone with it gives you a knowlegable answer.

But it is pretty standard for every software application to have a "help" tab. If you click on that or "about", it should tell you the version number.

I know McAfee is capable of scanning email attachments and they have a utility called MailScan, whether it is installed with your version, I don't know.

You should see a small shield symbol in your system tray (the area near the clock in the lower right corner). Right click on it and choose properties. It should give the version number, engine version, and virus definition number.
