I run a WinXP Desktop computer, and have just acquired a Notebook Computer with Vista. I would like to be able to connect my seperate Epson Printer and Scanners to be used by both computers. My first question then is (1) Is this possible and if so (2) How do I do it and what additional equipment/connectors do I need, ir any?
I will be grateful for any advice -John B

You should be able to share the printer if it is attached to one of the computers and both computers have some type of network connection.

Assuming your desktop has an internet connection, exactly how does it get its connection? Does it connect directly to some type of broadband modem or do you have a router in the path?

As far as I know most scanners will only work on the computer to which they are directly connected.

you need to setup a network for your computers then add printer sharing between them.

Thanks for your interest and replies fellas - sorry to appear such an untutored idiot! I have a wireless router using a USB wireless connector. The laptop also, of course, connects wirelessly to my incoming signal. I was hoping someone could steer me to some detailed instructions on how to set this up - as I really am a complete novice in these matters! Thanks again for your replies. John B

Link to a MS page that has a link to an MS-Word document that seems to be fairly detailed for your Windows XP desktop:

File and Printer Sharing with Microsoft Windows
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...925E-7AC9BE791028&displaylang=en#Instructions

Getting Vista to acknowledge the XP desktop exists and to print to the attached printer can turn out to be a royal pain in the butt. I have done it but it required a small pile of dried chicken bones, burning incense and chanting Bill Gates' name. :D

Here is a link to an MS Forum discussing problems with Vista printing to a shared printer on an XP box with links to additional MS knowledge base articles:
