I'm reinstalling Win98SE on a Compaq 5240 after a hard drive crash. It goes well but does not find a driver for the Serial Port. I tried Compaq, but they are no help . . will only support if we restore with thier disk (which has gone astray)and was not the SE version.
When I delete the controller from Device Manager, restart and let it rediscover the port, it wants to look at D:/DIR00002/Patches . . which must be on the Compaq version of Win98, but ain't on the retail MS version.
It looks like the driver is specific to Compaq and is used to share the serial port with a front panel game port.
Anyone have any ideas how I can get this driver?
Thanks a ton . . wrs
