Hello. At my workplace we have a lot of automation controllers (all the same model) that are configurable by terminal emulator. With XP I always used Hyperterminal and never had any problems. Today I connected with several controllers using a Win 7 laptop and PuTTY, and on some of the devices everything went great but on others the terminal window showed scrambled characters. On the sessions that looked like hieroglyphics I could still get through the menus by knowing what they should read, and deducing what the window was trying to say... so the connection was working. I made sure my connection is configured for UTF-8, and the baud rate is correct, etc. Any ideas what's going on? Thanks.

Have you tried other baud rates? (accepted values: 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, 115200)

It might not necessarily be the baud rate but could also be the flow control or one of the other settings in Putty.
