I have a sharp computer which I am reformating. however, i used the HP Windows XP CD (which says use on hp computers only). so i installed it, and it's asking for a key and it's rejecting all my valid ones (cuz it's not an HP).... so now I can't go into windows. how do I get rid of this crap and install a fresh OS? THANKS!

First of all you need a legal version of Microsoft Windows XP Home or Pro with the COA (Certificate of Authenticity) and the following article, please print the article for reference

An Illustrated Step By Step Instruction for Doing a Clean XP Install
http://www.socrtwo.info/cleanxpinstall.htm

You will find the instructions for how to partition and format in the article and if they are not clear follow this article:

How to partition and format a hard disk in Windows XP During an Install.
http://www.directron.com/formatdrive.html#3

Here is one from Microsoft

Microsoft KB - How to perform a clean boot in Windows XP
