FYI, I just installed some updates to our server software this evening. I don't expect it to have any impact on the way the forums run, but as always just let me know if you spot anything unusual. :)

"let me know if you spot anything unusual"
There are all kinds of unusual people here also?

Early this morning I spotted some spam posts (skin care products) in General Security and Networking forums. I reported them and they were deleted.

Always get spam posts in various forums
Some get blocked by spam software but some get through as spammers use unknown email addresses & phrases that aren't in the spam block list. Just carry on reporting them & they get dealt with
Unfortunately it isn't server updates allowing them but new techniques by spammers. All forums & blogs have noticed somewhat of an increase over the last couple of weeks as the spammers have updated their [email protected]

Sorry, I thought you meant you were seeing something unusual or different because as Derek said spam posts are par for the course. We get some every day but there are waves when there is a greater influx but it's nothing out of the ordinary.

I haven't seen that much spam here before that I can remember and that is why I posted here just incase something was amiss.

That is because the moderators are too quick & you don't get time to see it

Much of it occurs overnight so our UK Moderators get their fill of spam and the rest of us get the leftovers. The perks of being a UK mod. :D

Looks like we owe you an apology Knuck. :notworthy: It turns out one of the spam tools that filters message content was indeed broken after the upgrade so more spam was getting through rather than getting placed into a moderation queue where members wouldn't see them.

Thanks for reporting the issue. It should now be fixed but feel free to keep an eye out again. :)
