Failure to ping is almost always a firewall configuration issue. I'd start by disabling ALL the firewalls on the machine you can't ping.

That one obviously still has a firewall component that's blocking the requests.

The odd thing is you appear to have successfully pinged it in the first post.

ok I turned off windows firewall also and I can now ping all round. What happens when I re install the firewall ? Still a problem though on one pc only . I can print from 2 out of 3 pc's ok I get the following
a box with an error message on it

    an error has occurred
    line 1174
    char 1
    error unspecified error
    code 0
    url res://C:windows\system32\shdocil.dll//preview.dig

do you want to keep running scripts on this page ?
    yes or no
it is the marked as default printer..There is another local printer which works ok when it is default .

This may occur if the Ole32.dll file that is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder is not registered correctly in the registry.

    RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, register the Ole32.dll file.

    1. Click Start, click Run, type the following command in the Open box, and then click OK:
    2. Regsvr32.exe C:\Windows\System32\Ole32.dll
    3. In the RegSvr32 dialog box, click OK

You corrected the first error, now you have this one?

Try installing the print drivers again.

here is the latest, re installed the drivrs ,just the same . I made a local printer dell 720 the default
( on the pc giving the problem )It prints ok a document from my documents but will not print eg
the google home page , which I was using to see if it would print in colour, the printer has not been used
for a while , it does print when I used a stored picture . So the problem appears to be in the printer installation
on this one pc I have downloaded and reinstalled drivers for both of the printers ( the shared network one
and the local one.) As a side issue which may be relevant I am having a problem installing a Belkin wireless
network card on the same pc. Summing up 2 out of the 3 pc's are ok one is giving a problem.
this is the latest ping results from pc with problem

Try the pings by computer name, not IP address.
