The basic stuff works most of the time.

1. Make sure you have your computer set-up to find your router even if it's "not there".

2. Change your SSID to something other then the default name provided.

3. Turn off broadcasting of your router so nobody without the unique name will not even see it / find it in their wireless searches.

4. As stated in the other reply, turn on encryption of some sort. I suggest WPA-2 Personal using TKIP. You will need to make sure you remember all those nifty passwords... obviously. ;)

After this, having your firewall up, and maybe an intrusion detection software installed (if you think you are having those issues) should let you know of any suspicious activities going on.
