I am running AOL 8.0 plus on Windows XP system. When I log in I can get to my mail and can view any aol site within; however when I type in any web address I get the message web page can not be displayed and the following appears in address line:

    res://c:windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm

This problem started happening after my nephew installed Yahoo messenger. I have uninstalled Yahoo messenger & reloaded the AOL software.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Try doing a System Restore.

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.

Select "Restore my computer to an earlier time." and select a date before the internet problem happened. If that doesn't work, post back here.

I went into the menu as you instructed, but when I got there the System Properties box came up & there was a check mark in the turn off system restore. I unchecked this box, clicked apply, then continued on with instructions. When the calendar appeared only January with today's date appeared in bold. When I tried to go to a previous month, it would not go back to December. There were no other bold dates for the month of January.

Hi tech guys/girls, I'm new to this forum but an old hand at PCs .

Just recently I've run up against this exact same shdoclc.dll/dnserror problem and need to cure it pronto!
My wife installed AOL (yes I know, the 8th Deadly Sin) on our new Win2000Pro box, we tried uninstalling it but so far have been unsuccessful.

We have no backup to our Registry, no ERD, and alot of stuff on this box.

    Anyone have detailed step-by-step for
    1) curing this immediate problem
    2) unAOLing
    for a Win2KPro box?

    Thanks in advance,

    kerchunk

Thanks for replying with those links.

Our problem turned out not to be with any dlls
but with the fact that we had three firewalls running
on our box , all arguing with each other, so nothing
could be gotten to! Argh! Turning off Outpost firewall
solved our immediate problem of not getting out to
the 'net, now I can turn my attention to unAOLing.

    Thanks again,

    Kerchunk
