This one is kinda weird, and isn't just limited to our W2k pcs at work, I have seen it happen on Win95 as well...

For some reason, we have this problem where people's icons for shortcuts on their desktop and quicklaunch bar are changing. It's simply the icon, not the shortcut itself, because it still points to the same program. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Sounds like the old corrupt icon cache problem

Three possible fixes (well, there's probably more, with 3rd-party software*)

    1. Delete "ShellIconCache" file in the Windows -OR- WinNT dir
This file will be recreated on next boot

    2. Create or increase the icon cache size in the registry

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
    string: Max Cached Icons
    value: 2048

This increases icon cache to 2mb
Win9x default size is 500kb, Win2k/XP default size is 1mb

    3. Display Properties -> Appearance -> change Icon size to something else, then back to 32
(c/o Appearance -> Advanced in WinXP)

*TweakUI -> Repair -> Rebuild Icons
