If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate...I have addresses that "pop-up" any time I type in a letter in my address bar. The same thing occurs w/ the search function in my history folder. I cannot delete these addresses and when I check their properties, they seem to show up as shortcuts. Any suggestions on how to delete them. Possibly at some tine that they were being viewed, the "add to favorites" choice was made.

    Hi Vince

If you mean the drop-down list

Go to tools\internet options and click "clear history"

see if that solves your problem

Is it the drop-down list ?

or is it addresses that pop into your address bar ?

Your browser may have been hijacked

If you post your startup list we may be able to spot something

Please post your startup list by doing the following :-

Please go here and download startuplist 1.51 :-

    http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/

Download to any folder or your desktop
    Unzip the zipfile
    Double click the exe file
go to Edit - select all - copy - and paste the results in a new post here

Follow Steam's advice, but, at http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det , also download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please show us its contents.

It appears that your browser has been hijacked and HT will enumerate additional pertinent registry locations that Startuplist won't.

Folx...My browser has not been hijacked as far as I can tell. It just won't let me delete a few files. I could drop down the list and try to clear the history and the files and that clears the history and the files but there are some files that won't clear. Again, any suggestions ?

    No, you're probably right.

We may be getting carried away... :D

    Do this:

    Shut down Internet Explorer.

Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > History, and hit "Clear History".
Now go to the Content tab > Autocomplete, and press "clear forms".

    Now launch IE.

If any items still remain in the address bar drop down list, do this:

Copy the following bold text to Notepad, and save as Urls.reg (save as 'all files')

    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs]

Doubleclick it, and answer 'yes' to have it merged into the registry.

    Good luck,

I think you answered your question in your question - the entrys you see are probably being generated from your favourites list

    to confirm this

first "clear history" from internet options

    Then click the favourites tab

Look at your favourites list and choose those begining with the letter "M"

Type the letter "M" in your address bar

are the items listed the same as those in your favourites ?

If so - thats your answer - delete the favourite and you delete it from the list

items on your desktop will also show in this list
