Should I get a new wifi router?

    Present router:
    Netgear N900[WNDR4500]wifi router.
    Wired it gets 125
    wifi[in SAME room or any place in house, ]always low 20's

    I understand the newer "AC" wifi routers are superior, would an "AC router"help me get over low 20's wifi through out my house[rectangle shaped 2500 sq ft/dry wall construction/NO BRICK/ConcreteBlock,etc]...?

    btw, the Netgear N900 router is wired to SURFboard SB4161 Modem...fyi

    Kindly recommend a new product, ty

    Unless the router is defective replacing it is not necessary.

    Just reading the above quote my assumptions are that all your wireless devices are 802.11g and that "low 20's" is supposed to mean a little better than 20 Mbps. The actual maximum data throughput in ideal conditions for 802.11g is about half the nominal 56 Mbps.
