For the past couple of days I am not able to view my hidden files and folders. I tried repeatedly to activate show hidden files and folders but it doesn't work. I couldn't find and gpedit option either. I have XP pro sp2 and have done a recent virus and spyware scan

If you are comfortable with using the registry, you can check this setting.
Start> Run > type: regedit and hit OK.
    Go to this key:

Click on the Advanced folder in the left pane and in the right panel, look for the value name Hidden.
The value data should be 1 = show hidden, 2 = do not show
If you make a change, you have to reboot for it to take effect.
