My computer crashed....I fdisk/partitoned/re-installed everything..no problems at all...however, prior to having any problems, once I had the computer shut down, it would shut completely off...now, I get the message, "It is Now Safe To Turn Computer Off"...I hit the power switch and it will turn off...why doesn't it turn off automatically like it used to?

There are also quite a few shutdown problems with Win 98.
If you don't fix it here, go to microsoft.com and Support, Knowledge Base. Select Windows 98 and shutdown in the field and search for solutions.
