I am helping a friend via the telephone....he is in cAlif and I'm in Montana. His computer is an E-machine ( the brown banana of computers) it's about 2-3 years old. it's 400 Mhz, 64 Mhz ram, running Win98SE. The problem is......he recently replaced the power source in the tower....now the computer will not shut down when he tries to shut it down......he clicks start, shutdown, and then shutdown again.......it acts like it's going to shutdown, but then it'll go back to the desktop like it's actually just been rebooted........he has to power down via the button on the tower.....
My question is this....Do ya'll think this is a software problem ?? And if so, do you know how to fix it ?? Any help would be deeply appreciated. My friend is disabled and homebound, so I'd really appreciate any help you could give.
