Sigh... Why is that peeps don't believe in running an Antivirus

Go here or here and do an online virus scan:

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

You have this virus. Make sure you run your antivirus and keep it up to date. Also, you should keep your OS up to date with the latest security patches etc. After you do this, then rescan and repost your log. FYI : you should not put hijack this on your desktop, but move it to a folder so that you can save your backups in case you need one.

    welcome to the forum...doc

thank you doc and rtty for your quick responses. Sorry for my confusion - I never imagined it was a virus. Ran the scan which of course picked up a ton. After a restart and a windows update, here's the most recent logfile. I should mention that after restarting, I got an "analor" popup, if that means anything to you all....

thank you, flrman, for helping me out with this....I ran spybot, ad-aware and the rav antivirus scan again before redoing Hijack This.

As an aside, when I look at my C drive main folder, there are a bunch of applications listed that I don't recognize....in fact, I think they're adware (or something like that). Here's a list, if it means anything to you. If not, my apologies :)

analor, kernel 586, mitittt, svhost, win2, windrive, xfkors

also some registry entries and notepad files with odd names like 'crash' and 'debug'.

at any rate, here's the logfile:

Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall BroadJump.

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

    Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

First in safe mode click on My Computer then click Tools > Folder Options. In Folder options click on the View tab. Under Files and Folders tick "Show hidden files and folders" then uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)". Now click "Like current folder" then "Apply" and "OK"

Now find and delete these files:

    C:\win2.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Kathleen Eibl\Application Data\rmtr.exe
    C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\gergwp.exe
    C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\dwdas.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\fsdqd.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\aupdater.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\WinUpdate32.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\svhost.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\cak.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\ntsys32.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\fwr.exe
    C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\dfghddp.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\msmsgri32.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\musirc4.72.exe

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

    Empty the Recycle Bin

Go here and do an online virus scan.

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

Also I notice that you do not have an antivirus running or a firewall. If I may so this without being rude, with the net as it is these days it is quite foolish to be without an antivirus and a firewall. By all means get both ASAP! See this thread for some good free ones:

can't tell you how much I appreciate your help, flrman! I did as you instructed, and just a few oddities, if it matters:

    1. couldn't find musirc4.72.exe anywhere (searched all over with different names, etc) - if I can't find it, I'm hoping that is a good thing :)

    2. A few of those .exe files had dupes in the next level up, ie in \WINNT as well as WINNT\SYSTEM32. I deleted them. I hope that was right.....?

    3. No C:\WINDOWS\TEMP folder on my system....but there was a Temp folder in WINNT, so I deleted the contents of that one.

thanks for the advice on the firewall/antivirus....I'm heading over to that thread to address that immediately! Don't want to go through this again (or have you all having to spoon feed me through it, as the case may be) ;)

oh, and also have to make a donation. you guys are great! thanks again.

It sounds like you have done well! (y)

C:\Windows\Temp was a typo on my part. Sorry.

    Thanks again!

I've installed a firewall (ZoneAlarm) and am in the process of adding anti-virus software (AVG), but I ran into a bit of a hitch in trying to do so. I'm not certain if it's related to ZoneAlarm or not, but I am unable to get past the log-in screen for hotmail.com. Since I need access to my email to complete a download of AVG, I've run into a bit of trouble here. Any thoughts?

Just ran Hijack This, my log is as follows:
