Hi, I keep getting this error when I try to open the game SilkRoad Online:

"The Instruction at "0x00d3957c" referenced memory at "0x00d3957c". The memory could not be "written"

Click on OK to teriminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program"

THEN, after I click either OK or CANCEL, I get this same error, except with different numbers in the quotes.

    Hopefully someone can help me.

    Welcome & Hello.
    RIGHT click on "my computer"
    Left click "properties"
Which version of Windows do you have?
IF XP, is it Home, Pro or Media Center?
Which SP [ service pack ]?

Which firewall & other security programs do you use?

    Do you use Zone Alarm?

I have a similar problem, caused by ZA Internet Security.

    start > run
delete the contents of the long, skinny white box
    type: evenvwr.exe
    click "ok"
    maximize the screen
on the left, left click "applications"
On the right, look for errors.
    RIGHT click on an error.
    Left click "properties"
    Provide the
    event ID
    source
    details / description

Do the same for "system" and "internet Explorer" [ present only if you have IE 7 ].

    start > run
delete the contents of the long, skinny white box
    type: msconfig
    click "ok"
Which of the white dots has the black dot inside? If it is "normal" startup, proceed.
    Left click the "services" tab.
    Click "hide microsoft services"
Left click the button "disable all"

    Left click the "startup" tab
Left click the button "disable all"

Note: this will disable all of your computer security, except, possibly, the Windows Firewall, IF & ONLY IF your are using the Windows firewall.

Try to play the game. Note the results.
Go back to the system config utility; set things to "normal" startup.
    Restart your computer.
The steps described above are for troubleshooting purposes ONLY.

ok, so the evenvwr didnt work

Im using Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2

I dont have ZA, but I do have this program called NOD32 Antivirus System, which I dont think is messing the game up, cause before just reciently, I have been able to play my game without any problems, but now its messing up, so I think its something recent..

When I opened up msconfig, and did your instructions, it gave me a wierd error

"An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service, you may need to log on using an administrator account to make the specified changes."

Which part of event viewer didn't work?

I've seen that error associated with the system config utility many times. I disregard it & proceed. Perhaps I have been lucky. Perhaps I am ignorant. But thus far, no ill effects have been noted.

The process I described is called clean boot troubleshooting. For more information about clean boot troubleshooting, see

    Try: EVENTVWR.EXE

    If that fails, try:

    start > control panel
    OR
start > settings > control panel
Be sure you are in "classic view"
In the upper left, it should say "switch to category view"
    Open "administrative tools"
    Is event viewer there?

Ok, so I got event viewer to work.

I got about 900 of these

    "Source: DCOM

DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service wuauserv with arguments "" in order to run the server:
    {E60687F7-01A1-40AA-86AC-DB1CBF673334}"

and a whole bunch of these:

    "Source: cdrom

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom1."

All the above was in System. This is what I found under applications:

    "Source: loadperf

The performance counter name string value in the registry is incorrectly formatted. The bogus string is 3484, the bogus index value is the first DWORD in Data section while the last valid index values are the second and third DWORD in Data section."

    Thats all I found

What is the event ID for the DCOM & the cdrom?

The cdrom error, if it is event ID 7, often indicate a kinked ribbon cable. Other possible causes: faulty drive; faulty motherboard controller; faulty motherboard.

Is this a desktop or laptop?

Are there errors for the hard disk?

It is "normal" for DCOM errors to occur when one is in safe mode. Was the computer in safe mode when the DCOM errors appeared?

What did you do to fix this problem, or is it still unresolved?
