"You can create a(n)______ reference by deleting the $ from the row reference in the cell reference $B$6"

I have missed this question twice now...LOL....it's NOT simply "relative". I am thinking perhaps "mixed". But at this point I just am not sure.

Any help with this simple question would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for you reply. Ok....if you are saying it is "relative", at least on the quiz I am taking online, that is incorrect. I first answered absolute, but I KNEW that was wrong because it IS an absolute reference to begin with. I then answered relative, which technically I KNOW is correct, but it was counted as wrong.???!!!???. I know mixed and I THINK external are the 2 other options. So.....

    Thanks again.

It has to be mixed. Now that I have looked up references from my CIT105 class(from last yr), I then re-read the question and it is saying by "removing the $ from the ROW reference..." Which would make the formula "$B6", correct? 6 is the ROW reference, correct? That mixes a relative and absolute reference does it not?

    Thanks again.

So did I....so did I...but nope, it graded it incorrect as well! I have written the course teacher and asked for clarification at this point. I did terrible on this quiz(85). I had a formatting a group of sheets question that I have done SEVERAL times, but could not seem to be able to get past selecting the range to format let alone make the format changes. LOL. It was crazy to me. Got me all out of sorts and kinda led to my missing a 3rd question, that AFTER my last attempt it donned on me what step I was doing incorrectly.

Thanks your attempt to help me though. It is greatly appreciated. This is a great site as far as I am concerned so I didn't hesitate to come and ask for help!

Did anybody in your class give the answer the instructor was expecting for the "removing the $ from the ROW reference..." question? Very curious as to what the correct answer is supposed to be.

I am curious as well, as I don't know. It's an online course through the local community college. I took it at the last minute and have nothing said so I guess they did, but I don't know for sure. Instructor is gone to some seminar this week so I won't find out until after Thursday.

Looks to me that the question is a stock one ... so much so that if you google the question it pops up in books etc. Consensus is 'mixed'.
