I swear, I'm the most unlucky person when it comes to computers. Though my hardware issue was recently resolved, my software issue remains.

I just bought the Sims 2-- Holiday Edition. Installation went fine, but as soon as it came time to play the game, running the .exe resulted in "Windows has encountered an error and needs to close". This is not the first time this has happened. The first time I played the Sims 2 on my computer, it was a friend's copy. It worked fine. Then my computer crashed and my friend reinstalled Windows XP and my other programs. He put a bootleg copy of the Sims 2 on as well, and that's the first time I received the error. I'm uncomfortable about pirating, so I uninstalled it and went out to buy the game itself. The error message persists. :(

I'm not quite sure what information to provide here, except my computer stats (they meet the minimum requirements as laid out by the game).

AMD Athalon 64 3000+
2.00 GHz, 512 mb of Ram
Radeon 9600 video card
Microsoft Windows XP 2002 (SP2) *** My original Windows was 2004, but I couldn't find the CD when we were reinstalling everything***

Apart from the change in windows, everything else on my computer is the same as it was when the Sims 2 actually worked.
Thanks so much in advance for your help. :):):)
