I have just designed a website which almost exclusively uses css. Here is the issue, in Mozilla on mac, windows, and maybe even linux (dont know about linux) the site displays perfectly. However, on mac with IE the middle section of the page is completely screwed up. it appears much wider than its supposed to be.

Another issue is using safari, there are anchors that do not work.

an accurate portrayal of the site can be found at www.coas.uncc.edu/xiakou

EDIT: i believe the wide page is being generated by the actual text, not by the grey headers at the top of the pages. but nothing in the css file i made should be making it go that route

    Hello

I looked at your code and there are errors, sorry I cant offer much help because I dont use mac so I can replicate the problems.

Your code has allot of redundant comment tags, perhaps try removing them and clearing all the whitespace. I have included your page, the areas to delete are in red. The red bolded javascript should also be moved into the upper part of the head tag.

I am not positive these will solve your problems ont he mac, but they will clean up your page allot and perhaps make browsers react better.

    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"

<h1><span> Landscape and Power in a Sichuan Mountain Village </span></h1>
<p> Xiakou (pronounced sha-ko) is a village located in the mountains
of Ya'an county, in western Sichuan province, in the People's Republic
of China. This project is an ethnography that explores Xiakou as place,
understood as the historical interaction of the local people and their
landscape. The scope of that place goes beyond the village to encompass
the communities along the North Road, running forty kilometers from
the county seat of Ya'an to the White Horse Temple. The project is
also a reflection on our own engagement with place, and our relationships
with the people of Xiakou. <br>
                <br>
The ethnography aims to ask big questions in a small place, through
essays localizing the broad trends of China's modern history in the
lived experiences of Xiakou's villagers, and to evoke a sense of
place through an archive of digital media-scanned documents, photographs,
audio and video recordings, digital maps-gathered over the last twelve
years of fieldwork. The digital format of the project encourages
the reader to explore the complex inter-connections which we have
found so striking in our encounter with this place; thus the eight
chapters are not airtight divisions, but rather represent a variety
of angles for telling what is essentially the same story: the story
of the lives of the people who live on the North Road as seen through
their interactions with two foreigners. </p>

Have you updated your page inthe link above, it is till displaying the same errors?

I suspect that your menu javascript is the problem, it is returning errors; Line 11, character 3-Menu is undefined.
