Can photos be uploaded to SkyDrive without losing the quality and original size of the photo?

I need to backup some photos and wanted to be certain that Skydrive don't modify the photo that I uploaded.

Never heard of Skydrive so I googled it.

I would never use an online service as a true backup.

If you just want to be able to share with friends, family and such, then it would probably be fine.

You could always upload a copy and check it out yourself.

Skydrive is just Microsoft's cloud storage option. It will store your files as they are. It doesn't make any modifications to those files.

There's nothing wrong with storing a copy of your data on a reputable cloud storage system. Everyone should have an off-site backup solution. For many, this is the best option.

Problem is I'm not an imaging expert, I can't tell if SkyDrive reduce the quality of the image. If the file size is smaller after upload, can I say the photo has been reduced in quality after the upload?

I think it does, there is check box "Resize Photo to 2048px". Should it be checked? Is 2048px good quality? Should I check the check box?

So don't check the box. Then what happens?
