i have just been trying without success to help a friend who has this problem...

Browsing the internet works fine but attempting to access a secure site "https:// " etc. causes internet explorer to slow to a crawl. looking at task manager shows that mcproxy.exe is hogging 99% of the processor. if we kill this process then we recover control of the computer but the page cannot be accessed.

The computer is running XP home edition with service pack 2 and all the latest updates.
    512Mb RAM, AMD 3mhz processor.

We reinstalled McAfee but without making any difference.

Any suggestions gratefully received. I'd also welcome information as to just what exactly mcproxy.exe is doing even if you can't stop it doing it!

    Thanks for your quick reply.

i've looked at the mcafee forum and there seem to be a lot of similar problems. So I'll monitor that until a fix is posted.

I think the mcproxy is a web filter program that will scan the pages before its viewed IE. you can try and open McAffees Control Center and maybe look at disabling the web page scanning for now until they have a fix for the problem. That way you can atleast view the webpages and still have the other security options on..

    just a thought..
