I am working with a Dell 2400 running Windows XP Service Pack 3 with a Pentium 4
2.8 GHz processor and 1.2 gig of ram. It still seems particularly slow. I am not sure if it some of the applications that I am running like Norton 360 or some of my settings. I am including the file from HiJackThis file if someone has any suggstions I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance for looking at this for me,

Looks like you have Limewire installed, and set to run at startup. I'd disable it, and suggest completely uninstalling it.

Aye! I'd second that. Limewire etc trashes your hard drive.

You have way to many programs on startup . That would be the 04's in your HJT log . I have 4 and I think I counted 29 starting for you . The more in your start list the longer it takes to load and the more slugish it runs . http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?type=&filter=&count=100&offset=0 is a good place to go for help to know what you can stop from loading . You can find your startup list here <start > < run > < type msconfig > < click ok > < click the startup tab > < the ones with the check are the ones starting with your boot >
ATF-Cleaner is a nifty free little program to delete all temp files cookies and a general cleanup . http://www.snapfiles.com/get/atfcleaner.html . Another reason for a sulgish computer . Then do a defrag and see how it runs now .

I concur with post #4. There are over a dozen startup entries in your log that don't need to automatically load during startup and run in the background.

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG, then click OK - "Startup" tab. Everything listed there with a checkmark next to it is loading and running. Unchecking them prevents them from doing so.

This site will assist you in researching each startup entry and then deciding which ones to disable. Type in a "Startup Item" name(exactly as you see it listed), then click "Search". If it's listed in the database, it'll tell you what it is and whether you can disable it.

On top of the startup entries, I would also suggest uninstalling the Windows Desktop Search. System indexing is a time-consuming and disk-intensive process.
