are both the symantec and ewido used as antivirus, or is one just used for scanning purposes?

ewido is only used for scanning but can remove if needed.

dunno if it will conflict with the symantec or not....doubt it, as I fly avg and use ewido for scanning.....Why don't you update your ewido definitions, run a full system scan, and post back both a new hjt log AND the results from the ewido scan....I am not a security expert, so I can't tell you what is good and what is bad, but I can tell you that an Ewido scan shan't hurt.

Just make sure to post the ewido log, and a new hjt AFTER the ewido has been run.

Thanks, checking out for tonight, see you tomorrow.

I have run both scans, ewido found and deleted 4 infections, but I forgot to save the scan log. I have re-run HiJackThis and scan results are below. Computer is still running very slow and a message that my "virtual memory has run out" keeps appearing.

    Hi and welcome to TSG,

Please move HijackThis out of the Temporary files and into a separate folder of its own in program files, so that it can function properly and create back-ups which can be restored, if necessary and then post a new log.

It's still in the temp files. Please uninstall the HijackThis that you have and reinstall it from the following link which will put it in the program files by default, then post a new log.

    • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
    • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
    • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
    • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
    • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
    • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

If you knowingly signed up for MediaPipe/Moviepass/Movieland/Media Access then you need to call customer support to cancel your account immediately. Otherwise, you can just do the following:

Go to Control Panel – Add/Remove programs and remove any of these that you find there:

    MovieLand
    MediaPipe
    AccessMedia or My Access Media
    ItBill
    MsMovies
    P2Pnetworks
    Moviepass licence manager
Notification Utility or Notify or Notifier

    :D Hi Cookiegal,
Kennyboy has asked if I can help him with your instructions.

I have been all the way through the Add/Remove and there is no sign of the things you have asked to remove. I knew it wouldnt work, but ran a search for all the things but only found one cookie for MovieLand, which I deleted. Can you please give instructions on how we can find these things and get rid of them.

Just a quick run down on what I have found with his computer:
He bought the computer at a garage sale, so there could be anything on it.
Takes about 15-20mins to load up when first turned on.
He did have the virus 'Gopher', which I think I removed all of.
He constantly has a message that the virtual memory is running low or full, which I have increased once, but I'm not confident at playing around with.
When on the computer it is like it is constantly reading or loading something up.

Hope you can sort this one out, as it has me totally stumped, but has been a great challenge for me. Hoping to learn a few things from you.
    Thank you for any assistance.

That's fine if they're not there, all the better.

It looks like you're running an older version of Ewido. If you're running it as freeware, please remove that one and get the new one.

Download the trial version of Ewido Anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop. When the trial period expires it becomes freeware with reduced functions but still worth keeping.

    • Once you have downloaded Ewido Anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
    • Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
    • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
    • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine"
    • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close Ewido Anti-spyware, Do NOT run a scan yet. We will do that later in safe mode.

    • Reboot your computer into Safe Mode now. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while Ewido is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:
    • Launch Ewido Anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
    • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
    • Ewido will now begin the scanning process. Be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
    • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
    • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
    • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
    • Close Ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
    • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
    • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
    • Enter your Country
    • Enter your State/Province
    • Enter your e-mail address and click send
    • Select either Home User or Company
    • Click the big Scan Now button
    • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
    • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
    • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
    • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

Come back here and post a new HijackThis log along with the logs from the Ewido and Panda scans.
