    Hi,

I wanted to know if there is any way to optimize my computer's connection speed. I play a lot of Xbox Live on my 360 and I have a desktop computer. Lately my connection speed on Xbox Live has been pretty bad. I called Xbox Live Support to see if it was my xbox, or my ISP. They told me it had something to do with my ISP. I currently live near Rochester, New York and the only affordable plan (to my knowledge) is Roadrunner Online. I did a speed test and got these results:

I am not good with down/upload speeds, and do not know if that is ok or really really bad. I wanted to know if anyone has any general information on how to make my connection speed better for gaming on my 360 and for web browsing in general. Thanks!

What kind of internet service do you have, and what is the max. bandwidth supposed to be?

If, for example, you have a 1.5 Mbps DSL service your above test shows excellent results.

If, for another example, you have 8 Mbps cable, you have a big problem somewhere.

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

    Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Here's also the Line Quality Tests FAQ to help you understand the results. This will answer some questions about the line quality display.

Doing that DSL Test thing. Thanks for the link!

Also, I'll go through my paper work and see what my bandwidth is and post back with my results.

that speed sucks big time for Road Runner.... you should be getting atleast 5 mbps download

BTW... would that DSL test do anything for a Cable ISP like road runner?

Yes, the line quality test applies to any connection, though they don't normally recommend it for dial-up. It's not just for DSL.
