Why is it sometimes the AVG Virus updated takes forever and sometime about 10 seconds. I tried at 5:30 AM this morning when I thought traffic would be slow and it was a no go.

What is the best procedure for updating?

It seems to be the free edition is slow to update because everybody is using the one server. They are quite properly putting more effort into the paid versions, who have several mirror sites and consequently update & download much faster

    Good Morning Derek

Do you use the paid version? Money is not a problem with me. Is it worth it to go to the paid version?

I have never got a virsus. My RR catches everything before it gets to me.

Is the paid version difficult to use?

    PS-Should have said "Good Afternoon."

Yep I agree with DVK as I have the pro version and it updates in about 10 seconds.

Until a couple of days ago I used the free version and have done for 3 years
I decided to go for the AVG 7 version & it seems much better. It's too early to tell if it is any better at stopping/finding viruses as 6 free version was excellent at that. What is definitely better is the configuration for defining & sheduling tests & updates etc.

It is much better for updating as it only updates the parts that need updating not the entire virus definitions and the scheduling of different types of tests is better. I particulalry like the ability to run a quick test on important system files (those that are generally targeted by viruses) this only takes a few seconds and can be scheduled to run several times a day if you are paranoid, or by right clicking any file it will give you the option of a quick check

    Sorry about all the posts.

What happens after the two year license runs out?

You download the program and buy the serial to run it online...

yes uninstall the free version first otherwise I am informed they will clash

i assume you pay for a renewal of the licence in the same way that Norton or mc'Crappie work (hopefully the renewal fee wlll be a lot lower than the initial payment, but $30 or so is not bad for 2 years of virus protection)

I've been using Avg for about a year now from the free version to the pro version as well as beta testing on of my systems with version 7 before it launched and i have had no problems.
