I recently had to change internet when I moved to a University so I could use their internet. They have a really fast connection (T1 or something). However I find that some of my download speeds are ridiculously slow (less than 5 KB/sec). For example, when I download updates for World of Warcraft from Blizzard my speed is very slow ever since I moved to the University. Is there some reason for this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I notice alot more universities are throttling certain ports. It can be that they have throttled the ports that WoW requires...

A simple test... run WoW at home, run it at a friends house, run it in a Gaming cafe, and run it at school. if it runs fine everywhere elses but school I'ld bet 10 bucks on the throttling.

It does run normally everywhere else but here at school. Is there any way around this? Or am I just stuck with what I've got?

    Hi D26blaze,

Talk to other users of WoW at University. If their experience matches yours, I would guess you are going to be stuck with what you've got!

You can verify by talking with the Network admin folks at University. I suspect that WoW drains the University's bandwidth when a lot of gamers are on at the same time - which is a good rationale for throttling down the ports used by WoW. Ask them when the hours are throttled up for those ports - could be overnight, if at all.
