    Hi everyone
    Above is my computer specs..

Right now I can't afford to get more memory so I was just wondering what I could do
    to get faster internet speed...
Its almost like I have dial up!! Is there any program out there that will boost internet connections? I went to the control panel and deleted any unused programs and cleaned out the computer temp and other files this morning... (or does memory have anything to do with speeed?)

    Thanks for any help

Have you called your DSL providor and had them check your line? . . You are on the low side of RAM for XP, but that should have little impact on your DSL speeds. Your providor can run tests to rule out line problems.

You have 256MB RAM and I am guessing onboard graphics which shares the RAM, so yes that will slow everything down. Installing 1GB of RAM will dramatically improve your PCs performance (and speed up your DSL).

In the interim, you might be able to stop some running processes to speed things up. Download HijackThis, run a scan, and post a log file here. We will check to see if anything there is slowing your PC.

I had the same problem. My DSL connection was providing less than half of the contract rate of 1.5mbps and the ISP said with some tweaking they could probably provide about half (0.850mbps). The problem was that I was at the outer edge of the DSL service area. It will provide service if you are within about 18,000 feet of the telephone company central office.

For about $2.00/month more than I was paying for DSL, I switched to cable. I have never experienced less than 6.0mbps and the system is currently providing 22.306mbps (Must not be many people on line this morning).

Call your ISP and check your distance from the telephone central office and ask them what you should be able to expect.

I don't see anything "bad" in your log. I do remember one of my PCs being slow after finding Nick Arcade Toolbar one of my kids installed so you might try puting a checkmark in the box to delete that one (then restart Windows):
    O2 - BHO: Nick Aracde Toolbar - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-9EB4-FE6FA694B13E} - C:\PROGRA~1\NICKAR~1\NICKAR~1.DLL

Has your PC always been slow? Or is this a recent problem?

Dollars to donuts, when they check your line they will end up telling you you are too far from the phone company switching office to get good speeds.

Switch to cable! Even the low end rates will beat DSL.

It's not likely to be a memory issue -- try a fresh reboot, then check your speeds here -- what are they?

That ain't a nick arcade toolbar your kid downloaded. Look closer at the spelling. "Nick Aracde Toolbar". I don't think Nickelodeon would mispell their own prduct. My thoughts. My sister has the same thing and her computer is practically useless it is so slow.
