Dell Inspiron 1501, Mobile AMD Sempron, Processor 3500+, 1.58GHz 448 MB of RAM Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002, Service Pack 3

As of a week ago, my internet started running really slowly...my computer itself runs normally and there are no other problems. But whenever I open an internet browser, it is sluggish.

I was using Interent Explorer and I was getting Runtime Errors so I shut off Debug alerts thinking that would help the speed but it didn't seem to (although I have ceased getting Runtime Errors). I thought it might be an IE issue, so I downloaded Mozilla Firefox. I installed that successfully, only to see IE now had more problems than ever due to AddOns being shut off (even though, when I "Manage Add-Ons" it claims they are all "enabled"). I am fine using Mozilla instead of IE (I have heard it is safer to use), but Mozilla runs as slowly as IE was running. At this point, the Runtime Errors are not my problem (although maybe a side effect of the root problem, since I have never gotten them before the slow internet problem).

I can only assume I picked up some sort of virus, etc. somwhere that has been causing my internet to suddenly be slow. I have McAfee on my system and have since I began using this computer; it is registered and up-to-date. McAfee scans every night and has found nothing. I downloaded ActiveScan 2.0 through Panda Security and ran that yesterday. It found 11 infected Cookies files and disinfected them (theoretically).

I downloaded HijackThis and ran it and I have a log that I can share if someone thinks they can help me. Thank you!
