When I turn on my computer the Local Area Connection is very slow to load. It is the last thing to load.

How can I make it load faster? I have Windows XP.

    Thank you.

Hello & Welcome to Tech Guy Forum.

Has the computer ever worked to your satisfaction? When did things change? What changed? Did you add / remove hardware or software? Updates to Windows or another program?

Which firewall do you use? Be sure you use ONLY 1 firewall.

Which version of XP? Which service pack?
Do you connect by ethernet or wireless?
Do you connect directly to a modem, or to a router that is connected to a modem, or to a modem / router combo?
Which brand, model, model # of each?

Boot to safe mode with networking.
Identify the F8 key on your keyboard.
    Re-start your computer.
Immediately begin tapping the F8 key, once a second until the Windows startup menu appears.
Use the up / down arrow keys to select / highlight "safe mode with networking".
    Press "enter".
Press "enter" when the name of your OS appears.
Left click the user name & log in, entering a password, if necessary.
Left click "yes" OR "ok" when Windows advises you that the computer is running in safe mode.
    Wait 10 seconds.
Try to connect to the internet.

Does it really matter if the LAN connection is the first thing or the last thing to load, as long as it loads and works afterwards? You don't want to start using your computer anyway until everything loads and settles down.

Go to Start - Run - MSCONFIG - OK - Startup(tab). How many entries are checked?
