Hi and thanks for any help on this. I am stumped. I have tried an in place repair of W7 Pro x64, I have tried sfc /scannow, I have uninstalled security, I have tried system restore, but restores don't finish. None of this has stopped this problem. Neither have hotfixes from MS worked. I have a couple of those I have tried.
System:
HP 6200 Pro
Windows 7 SP1 x64
8 GB RAM
WD 500 GB Drive (427 GB free)
Here's what happens:
1. Boot
2. Start using a program, and the RAM goes up from the initial 17%
3. RAM doesn't come all the way back down when the program is closed
4. If left alone with no programs running, the PC will gobble up RAM at about 1% every 5 minutes until four or so hours later it stops at about 53-59%
5. At this point the PC is completely unusable. Mouse movements are fine and normal and the start menu will open, but trying to run a program leads to an "Insufficient resources to complete this request" or "Insufficient memory" error message.
6. At this point I have to pull the plug to reboot, but the system goes back to the same cycle. No problems getting into Windows, the "creep" just starts all over again.
7. PC seems 100% stable in Safe Mode with Networking. That's what I am using now.
I don't know what this could be, but I assume it's a startup or RunOnce or something. I can't find it, so I am hoping you guys can help. I think it started after I installed some of the Windows Live apps (Movie Maker and Picture Manager). I didn't like the complications with the installation (too many choices), and I think this problem may have begun at this point. I used Comodo Programs Manager to remove it. It had over 800 registry keys associated with the programs. I know after 5 years of CPM that it didn't cause the problem.
P.S.-I don't have much going on with startups. I turned off most of them to troubleshoot this, and I don't have an a-v on the PC at the current time. If possible I would like to save myself the hassle of reimaging and bringing the old image I have up to date...
Also, I am wondering if somehow a flaw in the Intel motherboard graphics has been exposed for this PC. I have the latest driver for it, but the graphics aren't very good compared to using a system with a decent PCI-e card. I think supposedly they have 2 GB at their disposal, but I also think that that is RAM memory that is dedicated for use that way. I wondered if this might be why the PC says it is out of RAM at 52-59% instead of 100%...
