I have a Dell3000 Desktop that is 2 years old and networked at home to 2 other PCs and and a network attached storage device. I recently restored the system to factory settings and then went through the painful process of updating all the OS updates and reloading all my software. Now the system is acting funny again. At least 3 or 4 times a day when I click on an Icon in the quick launcher (ie show desktop) or try to launch a program from anywhere the system hangs for several minutes before anything happens. I'm able to open Task Manager and almost always the CPU is in the 1-5% usage, but sometimes there are some unusal applications running (AuthUpdater, Update04 or AuthSplash). I don't know what these applications are. I use Spybot and Ad-Aware and use the Cox High Speed Internet Security suite to keep the system clean. I'm at a loss as to what is going on. I downloaded HijackThis today and ran a scan. The scan file is posted below. Can anybody help?

Thanks for all the reads, but whatever was going on made my computer completely crash. I ended up formatting the hard drive and installing a fresh load of Windows XP from scratch. And obviously the problem is now resolved.

You might want to use the Dell diagnostics to check your hard drive.
