My computer has been running really slow off and on since I moved into a dorm. I have a pretty fast sony vaio vgn-fz140e computer that I spent a lot of money on so i get really frustrated when it runs really slow. Sometimes it will take up to 15 minutes just for my internet browser to load, especially when using internet explorer. Everytime I think I have fixed the problem a few weeks later it will start back up again. I have finally realized that it must be somehow related to using the wireless internet provided in the dorms because I rarely use the wireless internet since I can connect through ethernet. However, problems always arise after I use the wireless one night and problems will continue for a few weeks sometimes, even after I switch back to ethernet connection. I have Microsoft Vista Premium. When my computer starts running slowly I notice that the gadget on my sidebar shows I am at a much higher level than usual of ram usage. I have 2GB of ram. I am typically around 45% or below, but it usually climbs to between 75% and 95% when I am having problems. I also found that the problem might be related to Mcafee Total Protection 2007 (which I later completely deleted from my computer) running with Microsoft Vista because many people in my dorm have had this same problem and only people with Vista and McAfee were having problems. Actually I am yet to find anyone with the combo of McAfee Internet Security 2007 and Vista that doesn't have this problem. One of the guys in my dorm eventually just got a new computer. I have tried Trend Micro's HouseCall, but I always immediately get an error ( "An error occurred while trying to transfer data to the internet. Do you want Trend Micro to try resending the files." when I say yes the same error pops up repeatedly until I finally just hit cancel) and then the scan ends. I starting using Trend Micro PC-cillin 2007 when I deleted McAfee Total Protection 2007, but I had a lot of unrelated problems with it. Therefore, now I am using McAfee Enterprise which is provided for free to me as a student of Ohio State. Early on when I was having the problem Trend Micro's scan told me I had something called pak_generic(I think there was also a 001 at the end), but it showed me no ways to delete it and I soon stopped having the problem so I just forgot about it. Well now the problem is back and since I have been having it off and on since September I decided I would give you guys a try. Please note I am not getting any error messages, just my computer at time runs extremely slow to the point where I can't use it. Sometimes programs will suddenly close, but I am not sure this is related. Also problems do not typically arise at startup. It usually takes 10-15 minutes+ before it starts running slow. Please help me this is driving me crazy!

it looks like you have 2 antiviruses/internet security suites instaled and active

I am surprised it even runs at all

    Mcafee & trend

that will be the cause of the slow down

I assume mcafee is what you are using so uninstall trend or the reverse if you use trend, uninstall mcaffee

Well the computer was running slow before having two antivirus programs and is running just as slow now that I deleted Trend Micro.
