    hey folks,

    once again......

all at once, my laptop is having a great deal of difficulty starting up. slow, slow, slow....

checking task master to see whats running, hanging up, and the computer is maxing out , cpu usage 100%, forever during start up. once everything finally loads, the system runs fairly well with an occasional freeze, max 100% again, that may last 5 to 10 minutes until whatever is consuming all the resources stops, then it's ok again.

went to safe mode and ran scan disk, nothing. have run several virus checks , ez trust, house call, bit defender, and only bit d. found anything, trojan.downloader.small.dq, and said it douldn't disinfect or delete it. i did so manually.

using a netgear wireless card/router combo and it was really taking forever to load so i uninstalled, thinking somehow, something corrupted it and reinstalled and with the same results.

    anyone got any ideas???????

have a highjack log if any one out there can give it a look....

    thnaks ahead of time,

    jake

Are you running Trend Micro? A little while ago, the CPU usage would be at 100% on startup, sometimes locking up the machine or making it very slow.

I decided to disable the Real Time Scan feature on PC Cillin because that was the program that was eating up the memory (over 120 000 K + on startup) and I do have a lot of files on my computer for it to protect = tons of resources used. Turning off the Real Time Scan before shut down and then re-enabling it after I turn my machine on (before I do anything of course!) stopps my CPU usage from constantly being high.

Whenever I play a game too, I shut off my AV program from running in the background. With it off, it frees up over 100 000 K of memory.

Antivirus programs that hog that insane amount of resources should not be allowed to be sold.

Post your HJT log for review anyways, just to be safe.

How bad are McAfee, Norton, and AVG compared to Trend Micro PC Cillin in regards to memory usage by their Real Time Scan feature?
