For the past week my computer has been starting up slow. The little blue dots that run across the screen in Windows XP SP3 during startup – today it was 53 times before it went to a black screen and several minutes later before I was at the desktop without any icons. Longer still till everything was loaded. From that point, some of my programs don’t work properly – search option is not available or programs take longer to open.

What I have tried so far was I cleaned up the c: drive and defragged. I tried to do a system restore, but was not able to: “The system could not be restored to this date”. I have run Spybot S&D (nothing), Adaware (always two things – removed them), Super Antispyware (1 adware tracking cookie – quarantined) and Malwarebytes Antimalware (12 adware.mywebsearch and 2 tojan.agent – all quarantined). I thought the Malwarebytes was it and the computer would load quicker again, but no such luck. Shutdown takes longer too, but I just walk away.

Would greatly appreciate any ideas, as that was all I could think of.

I have included a HiJackThis log in case it will help.

    Thanks,
    Roseann

Now, icons are taking 5 minutes to open. I click on my computer and I'm not kidding when I say it took 5 minutes to open before I could click on the a: icon. I had clicked on the mozilla icon and that took about 15 minutes to open. The hour glass appears right away and then disappears for a real long time before the program I click on opens.

    What could be causing this?

    Thanks for your help.
