Thanks Telecom69,did all that, explorer seems a lot quicker now.
When I run Adaware it shows 31 running processes, could this be why resources are low and if so how do I find out what these processes are and how to turn un needed ones off?Hope yu can help.

Running processes shows the actual processes that are 'currently running' in the background on the system. The number will vary with each scan, due to the user having used different software applications. Some software, even after being closed, leave processes running. At boot up, before opening any software, will be the time the user has the least amount of running processes showing.

If you would like to scan running processes,
    Open Ad-aware,
Click the "Settings" quick launch button at the top right to display the "Settings" main menu.
    Click "Scanning",
    Check 'Scan active processes',
    Click 'Proceed'.

The startup load is still too bloated and needs to be trimmed down more. You should leave

    ScanRegistry

    SystemTray

    StateMgr

    (Antivirus program)

    (Firewall program)

running in the background with Windows ME, but most of the others can be disabled.

Click the link below and read the article about MSCONFIG.
