Small buisness lan

    I have a linksys 8 port switch hooked to 8 computers. Can I utilize outlook to send email between these computers without using the internet? Please be advised I'm a beginner at this.

    If you use one of the PC's to run a mail server, yes.
    Outlook does not have a built in mail server, there are plenty of 'free' or cheap ones out there if you do an internet search. The hardware requirements are generally low although if you will be sending attachments, a large(ish) hard drive will be required. If you are in a business situation, backups may be required for legal reasons.

    You can use Exchange Server to accomplish that. Just make sure you deny open relaying. When Open Relay is turned off, you can only send a receive mail within your domain.

    I've found a many mail servers, If I have computers using multiple op sys like xp and millenium most of them recognize one but not the other. Is there a better solution with mulitiple op sys. Do I need to go to one op sys for all?
