Hi i recently had the fan changed in my computer and it is making a smell but not really a burning smell. Could the new fan be making the smell or something else? Thank you for any help you can give me.

The smell could be from the plastic of the fan or the thermal compound.

I'm guessing you have a Compaq Presario CQ61 series laptop.

If that's correct, advise what the part/product number(P/N) on it is.

Also advise what the complete model number is.
(Note: The complete model number will have a dash and additional characters after CQ61)

What's the complete model number of that HP G61 series laptop?

    What's the part/product number(P/N) on it?

You're referring to the fan that blows out the warm air from inside that laptop, correct?

The only info i have is
Product name: HP G61 Notebook PC
    Product number: WA964UA#ABC
I also have the serial number and operating system
The smell was coming from where the warm air comes out but it seems to be fading now.

According to product number WA964UA#ABC, you have a HP G61-409CA Notebook PC

It comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and 3 GB(3072 MB) of RAM.

You should add and save this site in your browser's favorites/bookmarks list so you can quickly refer to it when needed.

It's probably the "new smell" from the cooling fan unit replacement.

As long as the laptop is running normal and isn't overheating and shutting down, it probably will be okay.
