    Hey, I'm stuck,
I tried to reply to an email, added a smilie and hit "post". I got an error message telling me that I can't do that and to remove the smilie. But, I don't see how to remove it. It doesn't appear in the body of my email and that's all that I see.
    Anyone?
    Jim

    Cookielegal,
I clicked "reply"to a post regarding Dell password requirement. I pulled a smilie from the right block and deposited it at the beginning of my text. It doesn't appear in the finished post. I just got an error message that I can't enter a smilie in the text, I need to enter it as an attachment.

    DaveA,
My bad. Its not an email its a post. I was responding to an error message I received that I can't attach a smilie in my text. I must send as an attachment instead.

Yes, that will generate an error because you can't drag them from there over to your post. What you have to do is position your cursor where you want to insert the smiley and they just click on the smiley in question.

You can also use the shortcuts if you know them. For instance, for the smiling smiley you type :) (I've disabled smileys in my text so you will see :) rather than the actual smiley).

heyya Jim, hope all finds you well.....:) (yes, that was a gratuitous smiley)....;) (that one was real)

easy way for me to remember is that bbs (the code that drives the sites) is pretty user friendly. I just remember to start everything with :

after that, if I want the smiley, I add )

    if I want a grin, I add a D.

but the fun part is when you realize you can close the comment with a : as well. That is where I would type something like confused: to post my usual response to our malware removers (too smart for me).

    try it. Fun stuff. :)

note the lack of smilies in that last one.....:)

pretty sure I used up at LEAST 50% of my annual smiley quota on that one post.....:)
