I am unable to scan to PC, Xerox 7845, keep on getting smtp code 016-503

Considering this is an SMTP error code, should we assume you're trying to scan a document to email? If so, you need to give more information than presented.

Bringing out the old Xerox knowledge... That is most likely your network information and/or email information has incorrect information. Since the machine is a mid-size device I assume this is not being used for personal usage.

Double check the network settings, and in particular the DNS. Also make sure the SMTP / E-Mail settings are correct. If this is sindeed in an office environment and you are not in IT, get your IT guy to look at the settings too.
