We have a wireless home network and there are four different computers that can pick up the signal and use the internet no problem, including two laptops, a tower PC and an iPhone.

There is a third laptop that will not pick up the router signal (a Thomson TG585 v7). It connects fine when connected to the router via cable, but won't detect the wireless signal. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite running XP Home SP2.

The really weird thing is that the laptop can pick up every other wireless connection in the street. Any ideas why it won't pick up this one? I've done several searches across the web and can't find an issue of this kind or compatibility issues between the router and the machine. Any idea what's going on?

Are you sure that laptop isn't configured for US wireless channels and your UK channel is outside the range of 1 to 11? That's about the only thing that makes sense to me.

I'm not totally sure it's configured correctly no. It's not from the US, but it is from Dubai. How would I check/change that setting?

Define an ad-hoc wireless network and see what choice of channels you are given. In the UK you should have all 1 - 13 channels. If not, maybe there is a European region driver for your wireless adapter.

TerryNet, you have just been upgraded to awesome. Thank you SO much. You've just made a girl in freezing cold London very happy.

Channels was the problem and changing it on the router to one below 11 did the trick.

Thanks again

You're welcome; but we probably should give John a little credit since he first called it. :)
