I am having trouble updating data from one table to another. I am not Appending the data.

I've linked the two tables on an ID field.
I created a select query to see the data I would update.
I changed the query to an Update query.
In the Update To field I placed the following:
.[field name]

After running the query I noticed the update did not work. The data from the first Table did not get updated to the second Table it wound up being deleted from the first Table.

Your help is appreciated.

Buttercup1, welcome to the Forum.
I am not sure why you wan to update the second table with data from the first table.
Can you show me a screenshot of your query with the table(s) in and also your Table relationships?

Thanks, OBP. I've resolved the issue. I had the table/field names backwards. (not thinking clearly this morning)

To answer your question about updating: The data was previously contained in one table. The database had to be normalized. However, some of the data had not been migrated into the new table. Hence, updating only specific fields to the new table. I realized my error and was able to update the table.

Thanks for offering assistance!
