Solved: Acer Aspire5100

I am trying to restore from Recovery CD. The CD runs but before it completes the laptop shuts don. I also tried restoring to factory defauls but when I boot, it starts loading and then powers of......HELP!!!

I'm guessing 3 things at this point:

It's not plugged in and the battery is dead.

It's overheating.

The hard drive is dying.

It's plugged in. I cleaned the vents and fans. Maybe the hard drive. Hope not.

Oh. It's around 3 years old. It was working fine, escept for a virus before I tried to recover

I'm assuming you're not using an actual Windows XP CD.

I didn't see anything in the user's manual about that laptop coming with a recovery CD kit.

It runs fine through the "restore factory default" process. It completes but will power down when booting

The person who owns it made the recovery CDs. I called ACER but they want $60 per 1/2 hour for support

I don't think it's a bad hard drive because it powers down at the exact same place when booting. Something is missing
