I recently got a new computer, and i am trying to put my steam games back on it. I dont want to sit through steam downloading every game because that would take forever so what i did was i transfered some of my games strait over my network. They are sitting in the same place a steam game normally would "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common" but steam doesnt recognize them. How do i make it so steam will recognize them?

    Thank you in advance! :)

They will need to be reinstalled. Installing is a complex process that places files at locations throughout the operating system, creates relevant registry entries and database files, and integrates installed programs with complementary software. Most programs have only some of their parts in the Program Files folder. Moving those folders will not move the program.

Actually, Steam lets you backup your games, if you go to library and right click on the game, there is a option to backup.
And you can pass the file to your other computer and open with Steam.
It takes some time, but i think is faster than downloading everything again.

This page teaches how to do it:
