I've been check forums and help everywhere but can't find how you add someone to People from an email in the Mail inbox - should be able to right? without having to manually enter the person in the People app? I know it's probably staring me in the face but this aint win 7 any more.

    Hi Foodmonkey

Can you clear up a few things so i can understand what you are asking, you said in your post "add someone to People" Is people a program? You say "add the person to the People App"

What email program are you using?
Are you using a computer or an app on a iPhone?
Are you talking about auto complete in email?
What version of Outlook are you using if you are using Outlook

you are better off not answering questions that you obviously know nothing about
This is specifically related to the mail & contacts aps in windows 8. If you had windows 8 then you would know what they are

    foodmonkey

as far as I can find out there is no way to manually do it. The people app is supposed to add all contacts in all email clients automatically to itself.

It only seems to add contacts from windows live or outlook to the people app but you are able to add social networking contacts via settings inside people.
Everybody I ask tells me that the W8 mail app is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard

I understand that there are recent updates to the mail and people apps in windows store and new functionality is being added all the time, hopefully this is one of the new functions that they are about to add

    Hi Dvk01

I posted here to learn and also when you post, you get updates as to what a solution may be, you are right I don’t use Windows 8, although I have had a look at it, which is why I want to learn, I also like to ask questions so I understand more what people are asking.

(I have been told and I also tell people, the only stupid question is the one not asked)

Also you said to not answer questions I did not know anything about, it’s pretty obvious I did not answer anyone’s questions.

Foodmonkey – Could you let us know if updates fix your problem, I am keen to find out

dvk - I would of thought that the functionality I asked about would be a given.

I like the way that the metro apps have a definite delineation of function - in that each app does one thing and hopefully does that thing well.

I assume that theres some sort of framework to allow the apps to collaborate (I haven't had time to look at how the metro apps are developed yet - have got v studio 2012 installed so will be investigating.

what sort of competent programmer would not include something like that - if you do have separation of function then the power comes from the apps being able to collaborate seamlessly (or as far as possible)

im going to stick with it for a little while - even with this minor annoyance and watch to see what happens

btw thanks for your reply - its good to know it wasn't a PEBKAC moment - lol.

i'll mark this as solved for the moment but will reactivate it with updates if the situ changes for the better - in the mean time i'll start auditioning other metro mail clients - cheers

and ozzie yes good to ask questions but this is a win 8 issue (as per the thread title - i'll try and be a bit more specific next time)

yes, W8 apps do integrate & exchange information, The mail app in W8 is sorely lacking in functionality compared with other mail apps, but conversely has easier & better formatting tools than many better known mail programs.
I honestly think the developers just overlooked the simple way to add a mail contact to people ( aka contacts).

has to be - anything else qualifies as sheer bloodymindedness on the part of the developers - mind you I've known a few chefs with the same mindset

it's not really important but do the metro apps collaborate in some sort of CORBA ish fashion (god showing my age here)

thanks for your help - as I get more familiar with w8 I will help out when I can - cheers

I still would have posted so I get updates, which as I said was my intention, looks like there is more to windows 8 than that extra window

    Thanks
