    Adobe Flash Player was working well until I cleaned up the computer with ComboFix. The computer worked well, much faster, but Adobe Flash Player was deleted in the process and now I can't get it back. I have tried everything from doing a complete uninstall to trying reinstalling several times. It goes through the motions of installing but when I try to use it it isn't there. I have looked at some of the other posts and have tried their suggestions but I haven't found one that worked for anyone. I hope someone can tell me how to install this program as many of my apps need this to work. I am running Windows XP and I am pretty sure it is 32-bit. I also have I.E 7 installed.

    What did ComboFix do to your machine?

    It certainly made the computer go faster. But, it deleted Flash Player. I have a log on what it did. ComboFix 10-08-12.03 - Owner 08/14/2010 9:12.1.1 - x86

    I don't have an answer for you but there are some questions, the answers to which may shed some light on your problem;

    1. Why were you running ComboFix? Do you have another thread here dealing with the problem(s) that made it necessary to use ComboFix?

    2. Did the 'other suggestions', you tried include using the Adobe version test to check what, if any, version you currently have; http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html or the official Adobe uninstaller ;http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html?

    3. Your ComboFix log suggests that you have Firefox installed. If so, you need the non Active X version of Flash for it. Were you aware that there are two versions?You can get them both from this URL; http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ The browser you use will dictate which version you are offerred. (Note that you will get a Google toolbar with the IE version unless you uncheck the relevant box)

    When I upgrade Flash I use the uninstaller and then d/l and store the non Active X version as an .exe file which I doubleclick on to install into my Opera and Firefox browsers when they are closed. For IE I go to the URL, stay online and follow the prompts to complete the installation in IE.

    Thanks for helping. To answer, I was having problems with a slow computer and went to Tech Guys and read answers to others similar problem. One of the answers was ComboFix so I tried it. My computer speed improved but somewhere along the way Adobe FP went missing. I am now going to try the websites you listed and see if it helps. Carolavis

    Problem solved. Thanks for the help. I followed the instructions on the website

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html That you mentioned above. It is hard to tell what worked but using the official uninstaller rather than uninstalling from the control panel helped. Thanks again

    Glad to hear you got it sorted. I don't know if ComboFix was the cause, but it's usually something that the experts in the Malware Removal Forum recommend when they're helping to fix problems and probably shouldn't be used without supervision.

    As for Adobe itself, the Adobe website used to contain a statement to the effect that Flash Player could only be upgraded properly if their uninstaller was used first.

    You can mark this 'Solved' using the button that should appear at the top of your first post.
