    Hey TSG,

I have had my animated lightning avatar for quite some time, and was considering changing it up.

I found some photos that I wanted to try, I uploaded them, and it appeared they worked.

The only thing is that they're still images on TechGuy.

They're all the same file type, and when I open them, they open in my web browser and are animated (just like my lightning avatar).

    Any thoughts?

If you are meeting all the requirements, then try one. It may just be on your end. Animated gif's don't move in my mail program, but they do when sent to myself or for others receiving them. An image may be loading from your cache.

Just changed it out -- do you see it moving?

I don't see mine moving, though I'm able to see yours.

    No, not moving.

Is it under the size limit?

    I believe it's over-sized, but I expected TSG to re-size it automatically.

Is the problem that when TSG does that, it makes it a still image?

And if so, is there anyway I can re-size the image while retaining the animated property?

Gif's are especially hard to work with because they are basically a flip-book of a number of images.

You'd be better off trying to find an image that fits than wasting time taking apart a gif to resize each contained image.

I've used free gif resizers on the net before where you upload and they do the conversion. Look for something like that.

    I don't see it animated either :(

When I was changing my avatar, I had tried to upload it from my pc. In that case too it had a similar no-animation problem.
Then I entered the url to upload from another website and it worked fine.

    Maybe its a similar issue.

    Thanks everyone.

I suspect the issue is that when TSG resized the image, it lost its animation.

I've tried entering the URL for the image with the same result.

And I didn't know Noyb was so good at creating/editing avatars. I'll post there now and see what he can do.

I had to resize my own avatar to 50 x 50 pixels. TSG doesn't resize them for you. It's also 19.5 KB max.

So it sounds like the solution is to re-size them before uploading.

Thanks again for the help everyone.

    I'll mark this as solved.

Some sites will resize, but few will do animated gif's. They need special software to edit and it is not an easy process. With trillions of avatars available, the money could be better spent. :D

I see ENT fixed it for you. Anyway, it didn't take long. I'm glad you got it the way you wanted it. :)

    Yes, he did. :D

I also downloaded the software he used to make it work, so I'm going to mess around with it and see if I can figure it out for myself in the future.

And Cookiegal, I'm still working on the malware removal class. The progress I've been making hasn't been exceptionally fast recently because of finals and whatnot, but hopefully I can get a lot done over this break. :D

But I'm still a far way away from graduation, unfortunately. ...eventually though. :D
