I lose wireless internet connection consistently. I can get it back up by switching airplane mode on and off or disconnecting and reconnecting the connection, but then it’ll drop again in either a few minutes or sometimes a few hours – no consistency. I’m using Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo G500s (see below). Router is Asus RT-AC68P Dual Band. Doesn’t matter if I’m next to the router or on other side of the house.

Just so you know: Other computers in house and phone and tablets work perfectly with the Asus. Lenovo works perfectly on Ethernet, and also works fine with the xfinitywifi public, but of course that’s not secure. The Comcast combination xfinity modem and wireless didn’t work well for anyone, so put it in bridge mode and bought the Asus router.

I have tried to no avail: choosing channels on both 2.4 and 5 rather than auto setting; rebooting everything – trying to avoid resetting router since everything else in the house works perfectly with it; double checked the proxy settings as recommended.

Seems to me it has to be some peculiar setting on the Lenovo computer related to the Asus router (since xfinitywifi works just fine).

    Thanks for any help.

Besides Norton, have you ever used any other Anti-Virus program on the computer?

    Also please provide the following:
Press the Windows flag key + X and select Command Prompt.
Input the following commands and press enter after each.
netsh wlan show all > a.txt
    ipconfig /all >> a.txt & a.txt

Copy all the information out of notepad and add it to your next reply.

Thanks for the reply. No other virus protection used. First command you suggested didn't do anything. Maybe I mistyped. This was from the second.

On the Asus router change the 2.4 band wireless channel to 1. (This may cause a temporary disconnect for users)
Also go into "Manage Wi-Fi settings" and forget the "xfinitywifi" on the computer.
If possible have the Comcast account holder disable the xfinitywifi hotspot on the account.

Just realized the inbox driver for you wireless adapter. Update to the latest driver provided by Intel.

Thanks so much. Will work on it later today. Checked for Intel updates: says I'm up to date. Thanks again.

Try the latest wireless driver from Lenovo's web site if the latest from Intel's site did not work properly.

I followed Cool Burn's advice and all has been basically well (only a couple of drops) in the last 3 hours. I also saw the Intel WLAN driver update but it was from 6/13 and I didn't buy my computer until Jan 2014. Any problem trying to install it anyway?
    Thanks to all.

Those "Inbox" drivers are nice for printers, but I really wish all PC manufacturers would provide the proper networking drivers.

Theoretically then, the most appropriate wireless driver is the one that Windows 8.1 provides. And likely it will provide the best performance. However, if I were having trouble that I couldn't trace to interference I'd try the Intel driver and try the Windows 8 one from Lenovo. And then return to the inbox one if no improvement.

Connection has been solid for more than 6 hours now. Will wait another 24 hours to mark it solved. But am feeling pretty good about it. Only change was to channel 1 on 2.4 and making sure the xfinitywifi doesn't try to kick in. Still can't imagine why wife's chromebook and other devices were fine with 2.4 on auto. Many thanks!

Thought it was solved, but isn't. It was fine on channel 1 for a couple of days then same old tricks. I've tried different channel settings (6, 11, back to auto) - all work for a while then don't. There's got to be something in my settings that allows new channels for a while but then won't. In every case, I've changed to xfinity wifi and gotten back on immediately with no problems. Can't rely on that though. And, to remind anyone who reads this, my wife who sits 3 feet from me has not a single problem with the Asus router connection. Nor do my kindle or iphone or chromecast. Just me! If it didn't work at all it would make some kind of sense. But it works perfectly for anywhere between 15 minutes and 24 hours. Then it stops and I can't get it back up without connecting directly to the modem after which it then accepts the wireless. Windows 10 comes out July 29 so hoping there is something in that installation that will fix things.

Anyway, I'm open again to suggestions. Thanks in advance.
