    Never tried it myself but Microsoft Security Essentials comes highly recommended.

    I can vouch for Microsoft Security Essentials :)

    I would steer clear of AVG, it seems to be a bit of a hog recently and now has a new 'Tune Up' utility that causes more problems than it fixes unfortunately.

    Yeah, I would avoid AVG. There have been a lot of problems reported about it.
