Solved: At my wits end with Driver Probs then ERROR

Hi there.
Hey, I've been having a heck of a lot of trouble trying to install drivers for my display adapter.The MS error reporting knowledge base indicates i need to do so because Ive been suffering "Restarts" then blue screen" recovered from serious error"- errors . I couldn't download and install them from Sony and get results .I was never sure that they were installing correctly. So I downloaded the utility "Slimdrivers" and scanned, it indicates that the display adapter driver and some display controllers etc needed reinstalls too. But as I try to download and install them, I get a "Failed to install" message and this error : "Error installing ikernel.exe (0x10000)" It seems to be a Windows problem , not a "Slimdrivers" problem. I can't seem to get help from their tech team anyway.I have googled the error number and have tried registry cleaners and disk cleaners. The info seems to indicate a possible "InstallShield" problem? Anything that you can do to help? Let me know, if you need more info as, I will watch this post diligently for such a request . I always seem to get decent advice here. Thank you!

I have a Sony Vaio PCV-RS520
I am running Windows XP Home 2002 SP3
The "Details tab for Display Adapters-RADEON 9200 shows:
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5961&SUBSYS_50001043&REV_01\4&38B 71F77&0&0008

Here's a solution (hoping you have your winxp installation cd)

This is what you will see in the link I Provided:
"SYMPTOM
When you try to install a program that uses InstallShield, you may receive the following error message:The install Shield engine "ikernel.exe" could not be launched -Error loading type library /dll

CAUSE
This issue may occur if one or more of the following files are missing from the Windows\System32 folder: Stdole32.tlb Stdole2.tlb Stdole.tlb

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, expand the appropriate file from the Windows XP CD:
Click Start, click Run, and then type CMD. Click OK.
To change to the root folder of drive C, type cd\, and then press ENTER.
Insert the Windows XP CD, type Expand cd_drive_letter:\i386\filename.tl_ drive:\Windows\system32\filename.tlb, and then press ENTER, where filename is the name of the file that you want to expand and drive is the letter of the drive where Windows is installed.

For help with the Expand command, type EXPAND /? at a command prompt."

Usually I would recommend installing the latest SP but you already have SP3.

Okay, hello there.
I have the Windows CD and have tried to do as posted but receive these responses in CMD:
"cannot open output file: c:windows\system32\stdole32.tlb " ALSO " 'microsoft is not recognised as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file" AND Microsoft Copyright was not expected at this time"
I'm sure that I have made some ignorant mistake but, I am not sure where. I do not understand the use of CMD so, I have simply tried as best I can to follow the directions as I understand them in their written form. Do the responses I received tell you anything about where I may have gone wrong?

It does seem that there WAS a problem with the "Installshield" engine. The above procedure was not working for me but thank you for trying to help. I found other instructions that did disable completely the old engine and re-install a good engine from my XP CD. It seems to have worked as, I was able to complete the install of the Display adapter that was failing to complete before.
